Renaissance Insurance pays out a record RUB 69.6 million for a cottage destroyed by fire

This is the largest insurance payout for a country house in the company’s history.
A two-storey cottage in the Krasnogorsk district of the Moscow region, with an area of 456 square metres, was completely destroyed by fire. The owner of the cottage had insured it with our company for 10 years. The cause of the fire was a malfunction in the fireplace chimney.
“This is one of the most common causes of fires. Failures of chimney sealing combined with short circuits in electrical wiring are the main causes of fires in country houses. The cottage was almost completely destroyed. The customer was paid RUB 69.6 million”, said Artem Iskra, Managing Director of the Department of Wholesale Insurance at Renaissance Insurance.
In total, more than 100 insured events occurred in 2020 involving homes insured by Renaissance Insurance; the total amount of compensation paid out exceeded RUB 136.6 million, including for three other large fires for which customers were paid RUB 5.2 million, RUB 7.1 million and RUB 8.3 million.
